Rush Hour and Zones 3-6 - Wrap-around care at school + extra curricular clubs termly programmes

As part of our commitment to helping Portway families balance work and caring responsibilities, we are delighted to be able to offer parents high quality, on-site, wrap around childcare provision, as outlined below.

Rush Hour (breakfast club) - 7:30 - 8:45 am OR 08:15am - 08:45am every day

In order to further support our families, our breakfast club provision has been re-launched as Rush Hour.  Rush Hour is open to ALL Portway families, who are requested to book via the ParentMail booking system.

Children can join Rush Hour at one of 2 times every morning:

  • 07:30 - 08:45 - when high quality childcare, that will help get the children ready for the school day, will be provided by trained staff.  Between 08:15 and 08:45, a FREE nutritious breakfast will be served to the children.  The cost of this childcare will be £3.00 per session.
  • 08:15 - 08:45 - children can join Rush Hour at this time, when they will be served a FREE nutritious breakfast.  There is no charge for this half hour of supervised breakfast served in the school dining facilities.

Please note:

  • Bookings must be made via the ParentMail system.
  • Rush Hour operates during term time only, in accordance with our Extended Services Terms and Conditions.  Rush Hour will not run on any day that school is closed, regardless of the reason for closure.
  • Although children can arrive any time up until 8:30am, breakfast will not be served beyond 8:15am.

Please speak to the School Office staff for further information.  We look forward to welcoming your child/children to Rush Hour!

Zones 3-6 (after school club) – 3 hours of after-school care on-site from 3:00 - 6:00pm, every day

We are very conscious that the school day is considerably shorter than the standard working day, and that this presents a number of challenges for parents with primary school children.  In order to support families, we are pleased to be able to offer high quality, affordable childcare at school, every day.

Children attending Zones 3-6 will benefit from:

  • A healthy, stimulating after school environment
  • Expert sports coaching by specialist coaches
  • On-site provision, meaning both that the children are well settled, and that they don't need to travel
  • Development of a variety of sports and exercise skills
  • Access to safe, fit for purpose, outdoor space (weather permitting)

Parents can be confident that attendance at Zones 3-6 will support their child's helath and fitness, as well as the development of life-long healthy habits.

Please note:

  • Bookings must be made via the ParentMail system.
  • Zones 3-6 operates in term time only, and in accordance with our Extended Services Terms and Conditions.  Zones 3-6 will not operate any day that school is closed, regardless of the reason for the closure.
  • Zones 3-6 finishes promptly at 6:00pm, so we ask that all parents and carers are on-site to collect children promptly at this time, and thank you in advance for your coperation.
  • The cost of this provision is £12.00 per session.

Please contact the School Office for furher information.  We look forward to welcoming your child/children to Zones 3-6!

Extra-curricular enrichment clubs - new programmes termly - 3:15 - 4:15 daily

Each term, we put together a timetable of extra-curricular clubs that children can participate in after school.  Unless otherwise specified, all clubs are run by Portway staff, who have a particular enthusiasm for the subject/activity on offer.  The timetable changes on a termly basis, and parents are notified by ParentMail; a copy of the current programme is also available as a document to download on this page.

There is currently no charge for attendance at any of the clubs, which run between 3:15 and 4:15pm every day of the week.  However, as per our Charging and Remissions Policy, we may levy a small charge to cover resources.  Parents will be informed in advance should there be any charges associated with specific clubs.

Please enquire at the School Office for further details and booking arrangements.  To ensure that we are able to continue to offer these extremely worthwhile opportunities to all our children, we ask that parents support this provision by:

  • Ensuring that their child attends the club(s) that he/she registers for at the start of each term, for the duration of the term, and
  • That parents collect their children promptly at 4:15pm, after the clubs finish.  Collection arrangements will be as per those at the end of the school day.

We look forward to welcoming our children to these after-school enrichment activities!
