At Portway Primary School, we work to ensure that our parents are both engaged in their child’s education, and supportive of the work that they are doing at school. We also provide parents with details of the teaching and learning taking place at school - i.e. our curriculum.
The way in which we teach our children can be summarised by the statements below, which set out the principles underpinning the curriculum and reflect our school’s commitment to developing all aspects of our pupils’ lives:
This area of the website is designed to help parents understand and support the curriculum at school, and contains the following resources, which are available as documents to download to the left of this page, and are updated regularly. Parents will be notified of any updates via the News page of the website.
1) Supporting your child’s attendance: without good attendance, children cannot make progress at school. Parental engagement is vital to ensure attendance – please have a look at this information, and speak to our Family Support Worker, Louise Wilson, for any additional advice and support.
2) Supporting literacy and maths at home: This section contains information re supporting your child's reading at home, which promotes the development of strong literacy skills. Guidance and advice re easy ways to help parents bring maths into everyday life are also available.
3) Year group information: for each year group, this area includes the termly curriculum maps sent home to parents, that detail what we will be learning at school.
As always, please come and see us at school should you have any specific queries or concerns. Should you wish to obtain hard copies of any of the information hosted here, most of which has already been sent home with children, please contact the school office, where staff will be happy to help.
For any general enquiries, please use the ‘contact us’ section of the website.
