Breakfast club - 7:30 - 8:45 am, every day

At school, we run a daily Breakfast Club, which is managed by Vicki Gray, our Extended Hours Leader, who is ably supported by a trained team, ensuring that children get the very best start to their day.  A booking system is in place to ensure safe staffing levels.  Booking is arranged by completing a form, which is available from the school office reception; parents can select single days across a number of weeks, or a number of full weeks at a time.  The club requires at least 2 days notice of a child's attendance.

The cost of the club is £2.00 per session.  Payment is currently cash only, which is collected by Miss Gray on either a Monday or a Friday.

Children should come to the main school gate at 7:30am, and use the buzzer to gain entrance to school.  They are welcomed by Miss Gray at the office reception, and are looked after in the dining hall and the adjacent space from 7:30 - 8:45am.  A breakfast of toast, cereals, fruit, yoghurt and milk is available from the start of the club until 8:15am; this menu is supplemented by a varying range of muffins, crumpets and bagels to ensure that children have a wide choice.  Please note that children should not bring in food to the Club, as meals are designed to ensure that healthy schools standards are met.

Children are supervised by Miss Gray and her team.  As well as having breakfast, children take part in supervised group activities, and play educational games (chess and Connect 4 are popular options) -  the aim being to set them up for a day's learning at school.  Homework supervision is available, and staff are on hand to listen to children read, which is vital to the development of strong literacy skills.

Please note:

  • Breakfast club operates during term time only, in accordance with our Extended Services Terms and Conditions.  The Club will thus not run on any day that the school is closed, for whatever reason.
  • Bookings and application forms must be submitted ot the Extended Services Leader, Vicki Gray, prior to attendance.  No child can be permitted to attend without sumbmission of the correct paperwork in advance.
  • Although children can arrive any time up until 8:30am, breakfast will not be served beyond 8:15am.

Please speak to the School Office staff for further information and booking forms.  We look forward to welcoming your child/children to Breakfast Club!

We are pleased to be able to offer after school care, from the end of the school day until 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.  This provision is at Portway, so there is no need for our children to move from the school site; they will be collected either from their classroom or from a designated area by the Club Leader.

Booking is arranged by completing a form, which is available from the School Office; parents can select single days across a number of weeks, or a number of full weeks at a time.  The Club requires at least 2 days' notice of a child's attendance.

The provision is designed to encourage children to participate in activities which support the development of cricial social skills, as well as enable them to explore their natural creativity - and have fun!  - in a safe, supervised environment.

The Club provides after school care, as well as a snack for all children.  It is not a 'homework club', although children wishing to start their homework on a Thursday or a Friday will of course be supported by staff.  Children will also be able to access the ICT suite, and access online learning tools such as Mathletics.  Actitivies include: story time, board games, painint, papier mache crafts, frisbee dash, football, dance, skipping and free outdoor play.

A variety of hot and cold food, which caters to individual dietary needs, will be served at 4:30pm.  Options include:

Extra-curricular clubs - new programmes termly - 3:15 - 4:15 daily

Each term, we put together a timetable of extra-curricular clubs that children can participate in after school.  Unless otherwise specified, all clubs are run by Portway staff, who have a particular enthusiasm for the subject/activity on offer.  The timetable changes on a termly basis, and is available as a document to download the the left of this page.  The timetable also contains additional details about what is on offer at each club.

There is currently no charge for attendance at any of the clubs, which run between 3:15 and 4:15pm every day of the week.  However, as per our Charging and Remissions Policy, we may levy a small charge to cover resources.  Parents will be informed in advance should there be any charges associated with specific clubs.

Please enquire at the School Office for further details and booking arrangements.  To ensure that we are able to continue to offer these extremely worthwhile opportunities to all our children, we ask that parents support this provision by:

  • Ensuring that their child attends the club(s) that he/she registers for at the start of each term, for the duration of the term, and
  • That parents collect their children promptly at 4:15pm, after the clubs finish.  Collection arrangements will be as per those at the end of the school day.

We look forward to welcoming our children to these after-school enrichment activities!
